Webcam RAT’s

In Nerds only on March 11, 2013 at 11:33 am

Sure video conferencing is cool and every laptop has a web cam these days but what about the proliferation of RAT software?  Turns out that remote access tools (RAT) are getting easier to hide and have become wildly popular with creepy trolls.

I  feel that to be forewarned is to be forearmed.

Unbelievably the school laptop program has been abused and schools are ending up in court for spying on students in their own bedrooms.

The assurances of the ‘experts’ about internet firewalls and anti-virus software are over-blown to put it politely.

The only real way to protect from this invasion of your privacy is to put some tape over the web cam, close the lid of laptop or turn the darn computer off when not using it… ;o)

Here is a video of a young mom getting “Ratted” and realizing that someone is hacking her laptop.. opening cd trays and sending chat messages..

Seems to me that our privacy online is non-existent.  We have to act accordingly and teach the kids to close those lids.

  1. I’ve been doing this ever since I went an Anti Repression workshop with Jacob Appelbaum last year. That amount of functions that can be controlled remotely, the myriad ways in which our data can be accessed surveiled is truly astounding. Check it out and spread the word!

  2. Thanks very much for the link.. I watched both videos (three hours!).. good stuff.. a lot I didn’t know about I will blog on it when I get if fully researched.. I did a blog post on the Wikileaks outing Gamma International last year .. ( )

Sure am impressed with Jake Applebaum!.. you are fortunate to have taken a workshop with him.. ;o)
