Youtube flirting with putting up a ‘pay-wall’

Discouraging news that Google is considering a pay-wall on Youtube videos.  The idea of paid subscriptions for certain channels on Youtube is a fundamental attack on net neutrality.

Google are hypocrites because only a few short years ago they were yelling about how they were all about protecting an open internet and now they are stabbing the platform that made them a fortune in the back?  Google made $50 billion last year.. isn’t that enough?

I guess the sociopathic corporate personality is at work here.  Large entertainment corporations are frantic to turn the internet into cable TV, complete with outrageous monthly bills and crap content.  There is a lot more at stake here than entertainment.  The internet has the potential to provide uncensored information to everyone.

Putting up pay-walls undermines an open internet, creates digital ‘haves and have nots’, not Youtube but Themtube.  Here is a video tribute to Aaron Swartz, someone who did more in his short life to open the internet than Google ever did!!
