Shark sanctuaries spread throughout the Pacific

In Polytricks on December 15, 2012 at 9:04 am

Palau started the ball rolling with the worlds first shark sanctuary three years ago.  Now the Maldives, Guam, Micronesia, Tokelau, Kiribati, French Polynesia and now the Cook Islands have all declared their waters shark sanctuaries.

Sharks are in trouble due to one thing, shark fin soup.  A soup without any real nutritious value.  Like rhino’s, and tigers, sharks are facing extinction due to custom and superstition.  I’m glad that these sanctuaries are growing but given man’s history of hunting species to extinction to make a fast buck we have to remain vigilant.
